Talking like this always made her nervous. She started pacing around the room.

Ian watched her stand and start pacing. Uh.. why don't I make us some tea or get some wine?

He hated seeing her pace around, more because he couldn't.

Thank you, yes, please. Tea. She paced a while longer before sitting down and fidgeting.

Ian went to make them some tea and hoped by the time he came back with it she was a little more calm.

I... we should continue our talk.

We should. We can talk while the tea steeps.

It's more of a curse than a talent...

What if I don't turn out to be enough for you?

Talent is more likely to feel like a curse that most people expect. The system is set to mediate... Ian trailed off and stopped before he started on the social dynamic systems.

I'm too afraid to pass it on. I got lucky with you, but what if we have a child that isn't so lucky?

Any child we might have would never be on the run and would always have its mother to look out for it. There are other people out there who are accepting. You do have friends other than me.

Ian came over with the tea and set it down nearby. The only thing I want right now.. uh.. one I have and the other is not possible.

I know I have friends... I think I'm worried too much, and they keep bringing the subject up so I have to think of it.

What isn't possible? She looked up at him, concerned.

It's natural for people to ask about children right before you get married. I've heard it every time.

Ian shook his head but smiled, sadly. It was the kind of smile someone might have if they were fondly remembering a dead relative of friend. It had a mix of happiness and hopeless sadness.

I don't want to talk about it.

I understand. She went to hug him

Ian gave her a hug. Don't worry about it.

She didn't let go of him.

Ian just holds her because he knows she needs it.

I love you too. Ian pulled back a little to look at her though the thoughts on his mind were still depressing him.

I'm ahead in planning, and, um.

If you want, we can move the wedding date up. Would you want?

Move it up how far?

Before Christmas? She sounded unsure.

Right after the New Year? Ian wasn't sure about trying to cram everything in. The beginning of December is final exams and final papers. I won't have time.

When would you have time?

I could request Spring semester off.

It would take that long? What if we do the honeymoon over the summer?

Spring semester would be nice, though.

We could have the wedding in mid-January and take some time for a honeymoon.

I thought you didn't want to wait until Summer? Ian was confused.
