Housewarming Party (open RP)

Today was her housewarming. Janie checked over everything several times to make sure it was all ready.

The house was completely spotless. She'd scrubbed every corner and made sure it was nice and clean for anyone who came by. Every picture on the wall was straight and the furniture all looked picture perfect. She had lots of snacks prepared and a few activities so people wouldn't get bored. Later, there would be a nice dinner.

She wasn't sure where Ian or Kelly were, but as long as they weren't making messes, it didn't matter at the moment.  Everything had to be perfect for the party.

She laughed, shaking her head and looking around the house. "So," she said, being the master of the smooth subject change. "Nice place."

"Thank you. I love it. This is... really nice. I'm really happy to be here. We're going to get a dog too, so, I'm excited about that."

"How many bedrooms y'got?" Saxsice inquired, always interested in this. The amount of bedrooms in a persons house spoke a lot about them. She was sure it was some sort of fortune-telling science.

Then, grinning, "Really? What sorta dog?"

"It's got three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living room, obviously. Um, it has a dining room and a kitchen too, but all houses have kitchens, I shouldn't have even said that. Or the living room, do you want me to show you around so I stop putting my foot in my mouth?"

She shook her head, and went back to thinking before speaking. "Kelly and I are going to the shelter to pick one out. I'm not sure what kind."

"Oooo, two bathrooms, nice." Saxsice grinned, elbowing Janie gently. "I'd love the grand tour, but no worries about the foot-in-mouth thing. I once had a realtor show me a place and put special emphasis on the fact that it had windows and running water."

Nodding thoughtfully, Saxsice turned her attention to the carpeting (she didn't have much in her apartment, and she enjoyed it). "I've heard it's very socially conscious to get shelter dogs. Or so the ASPCA ads keep telling me."

"I'm... really glad for the two bathrooms. Really? She did? Don't most places these days have both of those? Are you moving somehwere? It is good to get a dog from a shelter. A lot of pets at pet stores are from puppy mills and those are just terrible to animals."

"I was working with a...really low budget back then." Shrugging, Saxsice scuffed her bare foot against the floor. "I'm thinkin' about movin'. And we got our dog from a dumpster out back, so."

"Oh, I thought you were talking recently... well, I'm glad you got your dog. He's great. "

"Well, I have a LITTLE bit higher standards now, I hope." She grinned. "Yeah? He's pretty good as pets go."

"Well yeah. You do. Did I completely say the wrong thing again? Um, pets are great? I can't wait to get a do. Ian is getting the yard fenced in."

"Nooo, no, no, you didn't at all. I guess...not many people actually know our dog, so." She grinned. "That's important. Having a yard, then fencing it in...very important."

"I'm guessing he wouldn't stay in the yard normally? I'm mostly winging this and pretending that I know what I'm doing."

"Nooo, definitely not. Dogs with a history, like shelter ones can sometimes be set off by random things....according to my son."

"People are like that too, and they don't have to be from a shelter."

Saxsice gave a small half-smile. "Then he'd definitely know."

"So, um... How was the drive here?"

Saxsice decided not to mention the five times she got lost. Or the bush. "Pretty good. I had a map."

"I get lost entirely too easily." Janie admitted "I almost always need a map or directions, unless I've been to the place a hundred times before."

Feeling a little better, Saxsice admitted sheepishly, "Yeah, me too. That's why I don't drive so much."

"We shouldn't take too many long trips together." Janie suggested "Unless someone else is driving"

Saxsice laughed. "Or unless we don't really care about getting anywhere."

"That might be kind of fun sometime."

"Yeah. Just a random roadtrip t'nowhere."
