After this

Janie should have been back from her mission days ago, but life rarely works out as planned.  She'd called her Father to let him know she made it back safely,   He had questions about the mission,why she was back late, when she'd pick Lynn up.

She only promised to see him in two days.  It would give her time to rest and to spend a little quality time with her boyfriend.

Her intentions were to order a nice meal, set it up with candles and wine, and have nice romance times.  Instead, she was asleep on the couch with the phone in her hand.

Xander opened the front door of the apartment and took off his shoes before he noticed Janie asleep on the sofa. He smiled and gave her leg a nudge. "Hon? You awake?"

She jumped at the touch, ready to fight whoever decided to attack her this time.

Then, she saw who it was. "...I'm sorry. I thought you were someone else."

" .. the other guy who lives in our apartment?"

"There was a situation earlier, but it's not important" Janie smiled "I'm back!"

"Well, good." He kissed her, a lot.

"Glad you made it back in one piece."

Janie kissed him happily, wrapping her arms around Xander and not intending to let go.

"The agency wouldn't send me home if I was injured that badly."

"But if they sent you home immediately, or sent you hove after a month and a half, I wouldn't even know, right?"

"Yes." she admitted, still not letting go "Or I'd be a few days late."

"I'd rather have you back now, so that works out well. You going to be home for a while, this time?"

"No." She looked down "There's- um. I got promoted. I need to return in ten days."

"Well, that's ten days away. What are we doing tonight?"

"I planned to order dinner and light candles..." She looked around, disappointed "I'm sorry that didn't happen."

"We can still do that now, right?"

"Yes. I wanted to surprise you, which is why I didn't call to say I was back."

"Well, it's a nice surprise just the same. You being back is always a good thing."

"I need to get Lynn tomorrow, but tonight, it can be us."

Xander smiled. "Our eventual daughter. What did you have in mind for dinner?"

"...Right." She extracted herself from him, and went back to the phone. "Food. We'll have food."

"Yeah, well, what kind of food?"

"Actually, I'm not hungry anymore. I should get going"

" ... wait ... going? You just got here!"

"I really don't deserve you." she said "And you deserve better than me. All I'll do is ruin your life and get you killed"

"Nothing's ruined and nobody's been killed! Just have a seat, I'll order dinner."

"My team is dead." she admitted, taking a seat just as Xander asked. "All of them. I couldn't do anything, I couldn't help them. He was right, he said I'd lead them to slaughter just like I've done with everyone else"
