After taking a deep breath, Janie knocked on the door. She needed to set things straight with him, to talk to him.

Maybe this would help everything make a little more sense.

Xander opened the door. "Hi!" he said, giving her a quick hug. "Come on in ... I was just watching a movie ... What's the what?"

She didn't expect him to hug her, or to invite her in. "A movie? What- it's probably a dated military picture. We need to talk."

Janie walked in and took a seat on the futon. "Why is this carpet orange? It's terrible."

"Yeah, you said that when we first moved in ... " He frowned a little, realizing there was something a little different about her. "Okay, am I missing something?"

"What would you be missing?" she asked, looking around the apartment. The walls weren't quite white and the entire place seemed at least twenty years old. "I don't remember moving in... It was ages ago"

" ... or two weeks ago, depending on how you look at it," Xander said.

"Didn't we already have this discussion?" Janie asked, looking somewhat confused. "No, because- fuck this I need a drink. Do we have anything?"

Xander rummaged around in the refrigerator and handed Janie an chilly bottle of beer, opened a second for himself and sat down again.

"I don't think we've had this discussion," Xander said, "but then again, I don't have the same perspective on the past-tense as you."

"I'm from your future." She sad, after downing half of the beer. "And I...- I'm not sure where we were, or what we did. There's you, and then there are the other yous, and they're all handsome but not the same. Not making a lick of sense, am I?"

"There's ... wait. You've been with other 'me's?" Xander said, not sure if he should be pleased or jealous.

"No! Ugh. I talk to them and wish they were you."

"Oh. Umm ... how's the beer?"

"Is that all you can say?" She sighed before finishing off her beer. "You're not supposed to be buff and awkward. They're never like that in the movies. Do you love me?"

"Do I ... ? Well, yeah, of course. I was kind of hoping to tell you first without being asked, but if this is how it's going down ... Do you love me?"

"You shouldn't." She said, before grabbing his collar and leaning in to kiss him.

"That sounds like a yes," Xander said, and kissed Janie.

"At the risk of sounding like a cheesy romance film, I will say that this can only end in heartbreak." Janie said, breaking away "And I can't take any more of that, which is why Nicholas Sparks will enjoy writing about this."

"Oh, God, no ... they'd cast Mandy Moore in your role and it would all be very, very -- "

He kissed her again.

It took her a few moments, but she broke away from him. "You'll die before I do, and you will age. It's not like the movie with Mandy Moore, who could not be cast as me, because I'm black. I can keep coming back to you but it gets confusing and I'm already lost."

"It's a movie, it's Hollywood, they could just say you weren't -- Could we have less talking and more kissing, for now?"

"No, because we'll keep kissing and before you know it we'll be naked and I'll feel terrible afterwards. If we're going to do this, I want to be- don't die on me anytime soon, alright? I want this to mean something." She briefly kissed him again, though.

"Not dying it something I'd be okay with," Xander said. "Why would you feel terrible if we were naked?"

"Because you deserve more than me and I don't want- I don't want it to be just sex. I don't want to leave you either"

"Well, I don't think it's just sex. In fact, until now, it's been everything BUT sex."

"So there wasn't a period of time where all of our friends were grossed out by us?" She was confused. That had happened, but not yet. All of this was confusing for her.

"Don't seem to remember us being gross," Xander said. "Sorry."
