After taking a deep breath, Janie knocked on the door. She needed to set things straight with him, to talk to him.

"I can't anymore." she said, looking down "I- I'm not living forward or sideways or backward, it's all mixed up. I've done things that I don't remember because I haven't done them yet, but they've already happened. Nothing makes any sense."

Xander frowned. "Anything I can do to help? Like ... get a new tattoo every year, or something? ... as painful as that sounds, it might help you keep me straight, anyway."

"A- what? No, I mean, I'm not sure. That's a lot of tattoos and I doubt if you have even one."

"Well, not yet. But they're all the rage among the cool kids and scary Goth people. Really, if there's any way I can help you with that, let me know."

"I'd keep you straight, but not anyone else. Do I ask everyone to get tattoos?"

It was later, when both of them were snuggled together on the futon, when they heard a heavy thud hit the carpet.

"What was that?"

Janie's question was soon answered when she turned her head, and a six foot tall demon stood behind them.

Xander jumped to his feet, or started to, before he realized he was kind of naked.

" ... now what?" he asked Janie.

"Don't make any sudden movements." Janie said, not taking her eyes off the demon as she reached for what she hoped was her pants. Her plan was to shoot the thing in the head with a laser blaster.

It growled at them, and she realized that she'd grabbed a shirt. "Honestly, fate. Can I have a little help, please?"
