Sometimes, Janie cheated.  When she was nearing her breakdown she had done it more and more, and she knew when someone was destined for better things.  She could peek at the timeline and see what was to be- what would happen if she let things go as they were.

She knew that she was making good choices, even though they hurt at first.

Today, Janie sat in a booth at a diner, waiting for a particular cop.  In front of her was a cup of decaf tea, and a black coffee sat across from her.
