The air in the room was still, and neither of the two occupants could look at each other. Instead, she stared at her dark hands and held back words, while he looked in her general direction while trying not to stare. At that moment, the only sound was the aging heater, which blew cold air on the faded burgundy curtains and caused them to flutter ever so lightly.
“I should leave.” He said. The pale man was taller than the woman, and thin. His hair looked as though it hadn’t been combed recently and he seemed a little nervous.
“No.” Janie, the woman, shook her head “I can’t-“
“It’s dangerous.” He said to the much shorter and darker woman, who now looked at him.
“Dammit, no. I know that I said you had to but I can’t.” She almost pleaded with him. Janie contrasted Julian, she was dressed in shabby but neat clothing, and her neat curls were held back with a band.
Janie knew that he had to leave, that if he stayed, there was the danger of him hurting her again. His instincts were to scratch, to claw, to bite and to claim and she knew that. She knew he had to drink, it was in his nature and that he might take it too far.
The danger thrilled her a bit, which she didn’t want to admit, but she was too afraid of the pain, of losing herself in unconsciousness where she couldn’t control what she did.
“I don’t want you to go.” Janie said, before rushing over to Julian and hugging him. He leaned down and kissed her gently, the two of them walking to the bed while holding each other. Soon they were both lost in gentle caresses and kisses, undressing each other between kisses and falling on the bed-
And then some noise, what it was wasn’t important, but it took her out of her day dream. Julian stood there, and Janie stood away from him.
“It’s dangerous.” Julian said, for real this time, and all Janie could do was look at her hands and try to forget that day dream.
