The young woman knew she was confused, and that no amount of Ifa would help her understand exactly what was wrong, but she also knew that she needed some direction. The supplies she intended to use were all her own, and not what Orishabi helped her collect.

The tray, the tapper and the sacred powder had all been obtained without the knowledge of her guardian. Her Ika, however, was known by everyone on the compound. They all watched the young girl gather the fruits and dry them carefully.

She spread the powder onto the tray and tried not to project all of her feelings into the process. Next, she called the spirits by tapping the iroke ifa against the tray. Sixteen palm nuts went from one hand to the next, slowly spilling from her small hands and falling into a pattern on the dust. After scratching a few symbols in the dust with the iroke ifa, she realized she had her reading.

"Ibi" Janie said, in almost a whisper. This wasn't going to be easy- none of it.

"You left many steps out, Awoapara. We have taught you better."

"Why did you do that to my parents? Olivia"

"Awoapara. You know what name to call me, and you understand the penalty for breaking the rules here. Omo, you have not completed this. You speak of the past but you forget the present and the future. Gather your Ikin and come with me."

"My names Ja'nee and I want to stay here."

Her mentor looked over her. "Ifa is not a game. Put your things away and we will speak of this again after the sun rises."
Janie nodded, and obeyed.
