Apologies

I'm sorry,  I took an unplanned hiatus from...  pretty much everything online.

Here's the situation:  I've got two kids, one of which is very high maintenance.  My days are usually taken up by taking care of them or doing housewifey stuff.  When I have time and mental energy I'll sign on and RP or write.  Otherwise it's not going to happen.

I've got a couple of plots in mind for her, one of which will be ficced (tag: man in the long black coat), the other is basically that she has found a map to something called 'The Key Of Time' (tag: key of time), which she's curious about, and will go searching for it.  It's basic adventure and nothing heavy about it.  Of course, she's open to other stuff too.

But things will be slow, except on Monday and Wednesday mornings, naptime and nights.  I hope taking this new approach works, and that my friends stick with me through this :)  I'm not asking anyone to be a part of anything, though it's open, I'm simply letting everyone know what's going on, because my character would talk about them to her friends.

"Mom, Mom MOM!  I need you to help me pick out a dress.  Right now.  Please?"

Janie looked up from the table, which was covered in greasy engine parts.  Lynn stood in front of her, with a huge smile on her face.  "What for?"

"I got invited to a fancy ball!  And I can't go modern, because it's-"

"Are you traveling in time for it?  You're able to?"

"No...  It's a historical masquerade."  Lynn looked disappointed for a moment.  "I'm never going to be able to do what you can."

"Yes you will."  Janie said, going back to her work

"I'm going with a guy."

"That's nice, dear."  the older woman frowned, and looked around for a rag to clean off a part.

"We're eloping afterwards, and I'm moving to the mountains and having 10 babies."

"Hand me that solvent- it's the green stuff in the glass bottle."  Janie pointed, and smiled briefly at Lynn when she handed it to her "Be careful, alright?  Don't drink too much."

Lynn slammed her hand on the table top. "Mom!  You aren't listening."

"I'm in the middle of a project."  Janie said, looking up at her daughter

"You're always in the middle of a project.  I need you to go shopping with me, and pick out shoes and maybe have a latte afterwards!"

"I will.  AFTER I finish."

Janie glanced back down at where her project should have been, and realized that the table was now missing.

"Can we go now?"  Lynn asked, after a moment of shocked silence.

"What did you do?  ...Set the boat to whenever you want to go, and we'll go."

Lynn obeyed, and the two never mentioned the table and project again.  Instead, they bought a fancy 18th century dress, shoes and accessories, then returned to 2012 to have lattes.

"Janie Louise!"  called Sara, early one afternoon.  She was still stuck on Ome Aztlan, away from her boyfriend and her life in a far away land.  Her rescuer wasn't back on duty yet, which meant that she had to stay in a safe house until he was able to get her home.

The safe house was nice, and even had a large yard, but it also had Janie.

"Janie Louise!"  she repeated "Did you switch my sugar with salt?"

"Who would DO such a thing?"  Janie asked, laughing "Was your tea ~sal~ Tea?"

"...That's not funny."

"Oops?  Do you want more tea-tea?"

Sara gave Janie a stern look, then searched the cabinet for the sugar.  "Did you switch bodies with Lynn?"

"Did I what?"

"You're acting like a child."

"No!  That wasn't an easy prank.  You've caught it every other time."

"I've ignored it."

"Ohh."  Janie had another grin on her face  "Sugar is in the freezer."  The grin fell when Sara removed the cup of water that would have fallen over when she opened the freezer.

"You need to go home."

"They're pranks!  I don't mean no harm."

"I'm going to be leaving soon, and you need to do something other than hide away and play pranks."

"Can I paint my boat purple?"

"Purple...  It's your own damn boat, do what you want."

"It was a joke Ma."

"You're not the only one that can joke"

"What's that mean?"  she asked, taking a seat since she was done with the pranks for now.

"You'll see.  Go home Janie, and I'll come visit you before I go back to my home."

"To see your Prince?  Is he handsome?  Are you two going to get married?"

"No.  I'm only dating him.  He'll find someone more suitable."

"Will you elope?"

"No."  Sara turned to leave the room, and Janie tried to get up to follow.  She was stuck fast to the seat

"Sara!"

The other woman softly laughed to herself, then watched as Janie began to laugh, one she realized she'd been pranked.
a_time_slip: (thinking)
"Sara?"  asked Janie, one day "Can we talk?"

"Yes.  Sit down."  ordered the other woman, as she switched on the electric tea kettle.  "I can't stand this thing."

"The kettle?  It's faster than using a stove."

"It's not the same."  said Sara  "What did you need to talk about?"

"I miss my family."

"...Then stop wasting time and go home."

"I don't want to talk to any of them.  I don't want to see them."

"But you miss them?"  asked Sara, beginning to prepare the tea.  "Why don't you want to talk or see them?"

"I don't know!  There's nothing to say, and...  they are all a pack.  Family."

"Aren't you part of that?"

"...Yes."

"You can't expect them to take you by the hand every day and talk about how wonderful a family member you are."

"But...  they all have these connections.  And I don't.  Everyone I love has gone away."

"Get over it!  If you want friends, be friendly.  If you're looking for a little nookie then find it.  Tomorrow is not promised to any of us, and you have to realize that everything must come to an end."

"What if...  It's over?  I mean.  if I'm not supposed to be around Phoenix, or Lynn or Julian anymore.  If that world is done for me?"

"If that was the case, you would have to keep going.  Keep moving until you find somewhere else to stick your roots for a while.  But, if I had to guess, I'd say Lynn isn't nowhere near ready to be done with you, and neither is your buddy Julian."

"She's never needed me.  And everything that happened felt like a... reset.  It's all happened before."

"That child has never needed you more."  Sara said, after a moment "What do you mean it's happened before?"

"Different things that have happened in my life.  I've um, been on different sides of the same situations.  Doesn't that mean things have come full circle?"

"Perhaps.   Does a circle have an end?"

"What?"

"Go back and stay for a bit, see how things are.  Then you'll know if it's really time to move on.  Don't you have other buddies too?"

"Aunt Sara-"

"Janie.  You've always got me, honey.  Always.  Anytime you want to talk just call me or stop by.  Anything that I can give you I will.  You never have to be alone and you know that."

"...But you're not going to be around forever."

"You're a time traveler, sweetheart."

"I still don't have my powers back."

"Don't you have a machine in your pocket that will take you anywhere?  And a boat somewhere that'll do the same thing?"

"Yes, but it's not-"

"You can find me, even if I'm dead and gone."

"That's cheating, isn't it?"

"This coming from the girl that hired someone to do your homework for you?"

"I wish you were my Mama."

a_time_slip: (looking down)
She didn't know what they were doing that night, other than walking up and down the street.  Her instinct told her they searched for something or someone, and Janie didn't want to think about the why or who.  Instead, she thought back to her friends and family.  Sam would probably like it if she got doggie treats, since he seemed to love Peavey.  She already had a stash of new things for Lynn, and a guitar for Julian.  But what would she get Phoenix?  Wankers were always the hardest to shop for.

A scream interrupted her thoughts, and Janie looked up to see a woman aiming a gun at a man.  Two of Ori's people.  They were figingt because of Janie, because she had been working so hard at turning them against each other.  The couple wasn't even one she'd been working on.  She thought they might make good agents at one point, because they were loyal and seemed to want to do the right thing.  They weren't on board with how Ori and Ella ran the compound.

Now, the woman was ready to shoot her lover, who apparently betrayed her with another woman and revealed to Ella that she was about to leave.

Janie watched as Ella hurried the couple away, and shuddered to think of what would happen to them.  It was her fault.  Janie wanted to go back home and stop tearing things apart for Ella.  She missed her family, and her work, and she wasn't even sure it was worth tearing apart anymore.

"Target located"  said one of the male Time Patrol.  "Janie looked up, and saw that they had a weapon aimed at another young man.  Without thinking, she pushed the patrolman aside, ruining his aim.

"Miss!  The target-"

"We didn't even give him a chance!  You were just going to kill him.  When did that rule change?"

"Ori changed that two years before she disappeared."

"Miss, it's too late to worry about the target's fate."

Janie turned, and then ran to the person on the ground.  Memories flooded her head and she found herself pressing on the bullet wound, on this young mans chest.  They couldn't keep doing this...  she had to stop them.  She had to help this young man first.

The rest happened in a blur.  The man somehow recovered, the man who shot him was now dead, and Janie was being carried back to the fortress.  Apparently someone else left, and the Target managed to escape.

They were down to 5 time patrol agents, and 7 other employees  Janie knew 3 time patrol and five employees were on their way out,  She was almost done.
a_time_slip: (busy)
Janie was taking an offical night off, and chose to spend it away from her Mother and the fortress.  The compound, as most called it.  She planned on calling Lynn, Phoenix and Sam, checking in with Julian and possible calling him to go out drinking.

Then, she heard someone crying.

"...Is everything alrigh?"

"My teleport."  she cried "That damn-"  The woman trailed off when she looked up at Janie.  Not even a woman, she looked barely more than eighteen.

"what happened to your teleport?"

"Someone took it. If I give up, I might get it back."

"Give up?  Was it Ella?"

"Yes.  I belong there, with her.  I'm a traveler,  if I give up she'll reinstate me.  Miss, it's nothing.  Nothing."

"Where you belong?  A person belongs where they want to be. Are you being hunted?"  Janie felt something inside of her freeze.  This had happened before, except someone had been having the conversation with her.  When she'd been afraid and on the run.

The way the girl nodded reminded her even more of herself in the past.  Janie ran her hands through her hair, realizing what she had to do.

"Do you need help?"

"Yes.  She- they find me, and it's impossible to hide.  Even public places aren't safe anymore."

"You've got no kind of life, do you?"

"Miss, I'm a traveler.  My life is with-"

"It doesn't have to be.  If you want out, tell me, and I swear, I will make sure you're safe."

"I want out."  she said, after a few seconds

"There's a place called The Agency.  The work is much better than working for Ori and Ella and you'd be off world.  It's perfectly safe."

"Miss, I don't want to join anything else.  I want to... have a life.  I want to meet a nice person and spend my life with them, and live in a nice town on a street with trees.  I want to sit on a porch and watch people walk by and ride my bike every morning.  I don't want to be a soldier or a guard."

Janie gently put her arm around the young woman, and thought for a moment.

"Take this necklace."  she said, after a moment. "If I need to come save you, it'll let me know."  It was far from the psychic tag that Phoenix had once given her, but if it was good enough for The Agency, then it could help this woman.

"It's ugly"

"Hide it in your pocket."

"Thank you"  she said, shoving it into a pants pocket.

"Why are you helping me?  You barely know who I am."

"If Ella is trating you like this, what do you think she and Ori did to me?"

The young woman stared at Janie, unable to say anything at all, realizing things weren't always as they seemed.

"Come on, we'll get you set up in a warded place somewhere.  I'll also give you a few things to make all of this a bit easier."

"They're going to kill you.  They killed my family."

"No they won't.  Close your eyes, honey."  Janie felt horrible about what'd been done to the woman's family, and promised herself that she would make it up somehow.

"It's Cindy."

"Close your eyes and hold on."  Janie wrapped her arms around the woman, and teleported them to an apartment building in New York.

"Where are we?"

"New York.  So you can build your life."

"I don't-"

"It's taken care of, for six months.  Get on your feet and you'll be fine, alright?"

"Miss."

"Someone will be by in the morning with ID papers and whatever else.  Get some sleep alright.  Apartment 16."

Janie gave the woman a summoned bag, and then teleported away.
a_time_slip: (Yellow Flower)
"Where did you go?"  asked Janie, watching the young woman sneak back into the compound.  The sun was just rising over the horizon, and the others would soon start to wake.

"Don't tell Ella!  I'll do whatever you want!"

"I won't."

"Why not?"

"Spend today with me...  you'll see for yourself."

"Yes, ma'am."

----------

As they prepped breakfast, Janie asked the Alice, the young woman, about her family.  Alice's family was dirt poor, and joining with Ori's people was supposed to help her.  Ori was the reason the town did so well, with her large supply orders and the purchases of her people.  It was a trade-off for the disappearances and the hold that family seemed to have over the entire country.

Janie, in exchange, told Sara's story.  Ori's eldest daughter was taken by a group of armed men, many years ago, and never was heard from again.  Janie was also taken, which left Ori and Ella heartbroken.  Ever since that day, Ori hired town members for security, and immediately killed intruders.

Alice in turn explained that she wasn't allowed to send funds home, or to visit.  Her family was out of the slums, but otherwise the situation was the same.

Her face lit up when Janie mentioned The Agency.

The next dawn, Alice did not return.

Mother

"Hello?"  asked Janie, after appearing in the tiny pawn shop.

"Mother?  Mother where have you been? I-"  the woman stopped short, when she saw who stood there.  "Janie"

"I came to talk to you."

"How did you get in?  This place is locked and I even used one of those dampeners."

"These?"  asked Janie, holding up the pair of devices that she'd disabled "I want to make things right between us."

"Why?  Sara raised you to hate everything about where you come from."

"I want to understand it more.  I have Lynn and she deserves to know.  You're family, aren't you?"

"Do you know what Sara did to us?  She had her boyfriend come in and kill half of our group.  She stole you, and almost destroyed Ori, my Mother."

"Why did she do that?"

"She hates us, even though we stand for a noble cause.  You're my kid, so I got nothing against you.  Don't blame yourself for her doing us wrong."

"I want to rejoin the family."

"You.  Do?"

"I left everyone behind...  these are my roots, Mama.  This is where I come from."

"Ori would have to say yes to it, and she's gone."

"Please?  I don't have anywhere else to go."  Janie had to keep herself from smiling.  She was down to this timeline, which meant Ori was in a jar somewhere.

"We'll do a vote later.  Until then, get to work.  I have a whole room full of stuff that needs price tags, then you can go boost some more things later."

"Thank you!"  Janie rushed over and hugged Ella, who seemed happy at getting to know her daughter

"We've got to do something with your look, though.  Hair, makeup...  you can be much prettier."

"Thank you Mama!  I've always wanted to know how to do things like that."

Tick Tock

Jun. 12th, 2012 04:47 am
a_time_slip: (writing)
Janie's hands were covered in grease and sand, the insides of the broken clocks that surrounded her.  Bits and pieces of them were strewn about the floor, the remnants of a grisly massacre of the time keepers.

These were Janie's clocks, and she stood in the middle of the room, shivering and heartbroken at the state of them.  This was her work, her life, and now it was gone.  How would she ever be able to fix all of it?  The hourglass was shattered, into a million pieces, and the sand strewn about the room.

"Mom"

"Lynn?"  asked Janie, turning to the voice "What are you doing here?"

"Hurry up and finish because I need you to come back home."

"There's too much work."

"MOM.  Just do it.  Sit down at that desk and fix everything so you can go back to being my Mom."

"I can't fix the hourglass."

Lynn sighed, and reached into a pocket before offering Janie a tiny, plastic hourglass, one that was part of a board game.  "Can you use this one?"

"It's small."

"Finish fixing everything else and clean up this mess, then it'll be the kind of hourglass you need.  But you have to hurry Mom."

"What's there to hurry for?"

"Me."

"You don't need me, Lynn."

"Mom, please, come back.  I need you."

"I've got work to do sweetheart."

a_time_slip: (white hood)
"Mom?"

"Hi sweetie.  Come have a seat with me."  Janie patted the spot next to her, which just happened to be on top of her boat.

"Okay, I need to talk to you.  I've been twelve for two years!"

"I'm sorry.  You're not going to age normally anymore.  Not for a long time."

"Why?  It's not fair.  The Beast says it's because of something you did."

"That's my fault.  I made a lot of mistakes with you, Lynn.  I'm not a very good mother."

Lynn finished the climb up the boat and took a seat beside her Mother, putting an arm around her.  "Don't make any more mistakes."

"Are you happy here with your Dad?"

"Yes, I love it here and I like everybody.  Are you leaving?  Is that why you wanted to talk.  Are you coming back?"

"I hardly see you anymore."

"Mom."

"Can you feel that things have changed?"

"Feel what?"

"Everything is falling together and breaking apart."  muttered Janie

"I think you need to take one of those pills."

"No sweetie.  I'm going to be fine."

"Take one, please?  You're acting-"

"Everything is going to work out wonderfully."  she smiled, looking over towards her daughter.

"Did you mess with a timeline again?"

"No.  Sara did.  She changed so, so much, all because she didn't accept her fate."

"Where is she?"

"She'll be here soon."

"Where is she gonna stay?"

"I don't know.  A hotel?  It doesn't matter."

"What's going on Mom?"

"Someone is going to have to take care of my boat."

"I knew it!  You can't leave!  You can't do this to us again!"

"I've made adjustments to it- Lynn... listen.  Calm down, please.  I have some work to do.  Once I'm done I'll be back."

"Where are you going?"

"It doesn't matter, does it?  You're going to be able to contact me.  You're going to know that I'm okay.  You always know, don't you?"

"Get someone else to do it."

"This is my job.  If anyone asks- just... tell them I'll be back.  I'm going away on assignment.  I love all of you, but you know that."

"Mom."

"Take care of the boat, alright?  When Sara comes around see if she'll get someone to keep an eye on the island."

"How long are you going to be gone?  What about the agency?  You sunk everything into that."

"It won't be long, Lynn."

"Why are you telling me?"

"Because you're the first person they'll ask.  Take care of them for me, won't you?  But don't forget to be a kid."

"Where are you going?"

"Nowhere."  Janie said, standing.   "I love you Lynn.  You're always going to be my little girl, no matter what.  I don't care about what you've done, or The Beast, or any of the stuff you are capable of doing.  You are my baby, my gift."

"Mommy-"

Lynn trailed off as she watched the sun begin to set.  Janie seemed to melt into the sunset, glowing for a second before disappearing.

I lived with Papa Lonzo until two.

Bahamas until four.

Papa Lonzo until six.

Mama Sara sent me to boarding school when I was six, and changed them up every two years so I wouldn't get caught or lost.

I spent some time in school with Hannibal, and a few summers with him in the woods.

I could always go to Sara.  She was a mom, aunt and everything else.  She told me about our family and made sure I was always armed.  Just in case.

I got to go to college, and graduate.

Ori managed to find me when I was 90 or so... and Phoenix helped to save my life.  I was still green then.  He, my fiancee at the time and Alec helped defeat them (among other friends).

Everything else is the same, except, I never really knew Ella.  I met her once or twice.  I know she betrayed me.

This is my new history.  I don't remember the old anymore.  I remember my friends and my true family.

"Yes, may I help you?"

"I need to speak with you personally, please."

"You should contact your unit leader with any work-lifestyle issues."

"It's you I've got to talk to."

"Do you have a complaint?"

"No."

"Are you leaving the program?"

"No, Ma'am."

"Close the door, and I will talk with you privately.  I must notify you that the confidentially clause of the open door policy will not protect you it is is proven that you have broken the law in any way, shape or fashion."

"Janie!"

"Please do not refer to me by my first name.  We are not that familiar."

"Yes, we are.  Look at ME."

"Do not command me."

"I'm not!  Please, look at me!"

"What are you doing here?  Why- you- You're not supposed to be in that uniform!"

New Office

May. 16th, 2012 01:35 am
a_time_slip: (Default)
The office with the beautiful view of the flowers was now a healing lounge.  One of three healing lounges, actually, and it was the only such lounge set aside for new recruits.  She had them rip up everything, and even redo the window, so now it looked like a completely different room.

No longer would she look out and see the beautiful green sky, or the rainbow colored field of flowers.

The new office was a corner room, with a small window that overlooked the courtyard.  The courtyard was concrete and benches, a large fountain and- the new addition, a lavender Dashki tree.  The other walls of the office were covered in screens, and the desk was replaced by a conference table with a computer at the head seat.  The current screensavers were of Lynn, and Sam.  Phoenix, Julian- even Alec.  She owed all of them big time.  If anyone but her or one of them walked into the room, she had it set to change to the agency logo.

The system was now locked down even more.  Everyone with access could only access the most basic of things- everything else needed special permission.  These were Agents.  All most of them needed was email.  She would do all of the technology work until she found trustworthy employees.  The Agency would NOT be compromised again under her watch.

Their ComPads could access Internet, Janie realized.  Which was fine, but she set up firewalls.  She set monitors for traffic, and anything unusual would be brought to her attention.  She thought of everything that Gio and his friends did to tear apart the agency, and she came up with ways to prevent it.

Once Headquarters was finished, she called a select few, and entered a guest password for just the day, and just for entering through the front door.  Janie trusted them, but she didn't trust anything or anyone else.

You have been invited for a tour of the renovated Agency Headquarters.  Please enter your presonalized one time passcode at the building entrance.

Thank you.

Passcode is:
HAZEL[YOURFIRSTNAME][*****]

I look forward to your visit.
