New Office

The office with the beautiful view of the flowers was now a healing lounge.  One of three healing lounges, actually, and it was the only such lounge set aside for new recruits.  She had them rip up everything, and even redo the window, so now it looked like a completely different room.

No longer would she look out and see the beautiful green sky, or the rainbow colored field of flowers.

The new office was a corner room, with a small window that overlooked the courtyard.  The courtyard was concrete and benches, a large fountain and- the new addition, a lavender Dashki tree.  The other walls of the office were covered in screens, and the desk was replaced by a conference table with a computer at the head seat.  The current screensavers were of Lynn, and Sam.  Phoenix, Julian- even Alec.  She owed all of them big time.  If anyone but her or one of them walked into the room, she had it set to change to the agency logo.

The system was now locked down even more.  Everyone with access could only access the most basic of things- everything else needed special permission.  These were Agents.  All most of them needed was email.  She would do all of the technology work until she found trustworthy employees.  The Agency would NOT be compromised again under her watch.

Their ComPads could access Internet, Janie realized.  Which was fine, but she set up firewalls.  She set monitors for traffic, and anything unusual would be brought to her attention.  She thought of everything that Gio and his friends did to tear apart the agency, and she came up with ways to prevent it.

Once Headquarters was finished, she called a select few, and entered a guest password for just the day, and just for entering through the front door.  Janie trusted them, but she didn't trust anything or anyone else.

You have been invited for a tour of the renovated Agency Headquarters.  Please enter your presonalized one time passcode at the building entrance.

Thank you.

Passcode is:
HAZEL[YOURFIRSTNAME][*****]

I look forward to your visit.

Julian was still trying to wrap his head around this new development - of him becoming a part of the Agency.

It was a great honor to him, to have been invited in, and a huge display of trust from Janie. But it still felt a bit unreal.

So he welcomed the chance to see things for real and to follow Janie's invitation to the Headquarters.

A short time later, he found himself in front of the building, and spent a few minutes just looking at it and the surroundings. Then, he walked to the front door and entered his key code.

Julian pulled back his hand in surprise when the door suddenly opened. When he saw Janie, though, he smiled widely, happy to see her instead of some security personnel telling him to get the hell off.

"Hi, Janie! It's good to see you--"

He came inside, suddenly feeling a bit insecure.

"Uhm. What should I call you while we are here? I've never been to the military, I'm afraid."

"Alright. Admiral."

He saluted, with more enthusiasm than perfectionism. Looking around, he noticed the cameras, not sure whether they counted as said others, and he didn't want to appear disrespectful.

"An office? Uhm, I don't know ... will I need one?"

"It feels pretty weird", he agreed. It was odd to see his friend in such a different role, and he was glad she didn't insist on him saluting. He let his hand drop to his side and smiled.

"Alright, I wouldn't mind keeping you company here. I've never had an office before ... "

Actually, he didn't have an idea yet what his duties would be either.

"Mh, in this case, I think I'd like to have one with a view outside. Uhm. And blinds, unless you've got this nice UV proof windows in here."

Julian followed, eager to see more of this place.

"Thank you. I hope I'm not going to disappoint you. I'm glad you asked ... it's a chance to do something useful."

Julian nodded, wondering what he was going to do with his new office. It still felt all very new to him.

"Yes, I'd like to. Do you use it often?"
