Kitchen- set before game.
Everything in the small room gleamed, the stainless steel reflecting light onto more stainless steel and white surfaces. The aseptic environment was only sullied by the sudden appearance of a young girl that was dwarfed by a pile of large and dusty roots.
She knew her task, a punishment for sneaking out into the village and missing the lessons and chores which were supposedly an integral part of her upbringing. The girl was to peel, chop, boil and then pound the entire pile of yams, afterwards, restoring the kitchen to it's original and sterile environment.
First, the stockpots needed to be filled with water, a process that was lengthy and that left the white floor covered in muddy footprints. Next, a large wooden cutting board was placed on the counter next to the knives she would be using.
The first yam she picked up was a long and dusty root, weighing fifteen pounds. She placed it on the board, and began slicing the root vegetable. When the girl began peeling the skin off the slices, someone else walked into the room.
"Tayo." The young man was greeted with a smile. "Are you allowed here?"
"I am not. Jolaife, you know that you are isolated during your repentance. Were you able to accommodate my request?"
"Yes. Ori remains ignorant." The young woman continued to smile. Jolaife was something that only he called her. Most there either used Omo or Janie. She set the knife and the yams down before reaching into a hidden pocket and retrieving a small package wrapped in brown paper.
"Make it stay that way. You are beautiful." Tayo walked up to the young woman and bent down enough to kiss her on the cheek. His hand brushed over her shoulder."This will be the last time for you this week. Remember not to inform the others."
She nodded, still smiling up at the man. Even when not in the kitchen, everyone could tell what a crush she had on Tayo. Their leader tried to give the girl chores away from the man, but she always found a way back to him.
An older woman opened the door, causing both of the young people look at her in surprise. She turned to the younger woman, asking her why the man was in the room. When her question was not answered, she turned to the other person.
Tayo removed the hand from the girl's shoulder, and stepped back while regarding her coolly.
"She is a child with a crush. Keep her away from me."
Janie- she was Janie, not that fancy name he called her, gave him a look of hurt and confusion.
"A silly child. Do you see what was given to me by her?"
The packet was handed to Ori, who opened the brown paper and looked disgusted. "Return to your partner. I will speak with you later, Tayo."
The man obeyed, and completely ignored the girl he kissed only a few seconds earlier.
"Omo. Complete this, and I will take you on a lesson. Pick your time, because you need away from here while some are reeducated."
"Yes, Ori." She went back to peeling the slices of yam root. What had Tayo done to her? This seemed like a betrayal, but she had no time to dwell on it. Time was beginning to run short for her task. She didn't travel inside the compound because she knew she wasn't supposed to be able to do that.
