Housewarming Party (open RP)

Today was her housewarming. Janie checked over everything several times to make sure it was all ready.

The house was completely spotless. She'd scrubbed every corner and made sure it was nice and clean for anyone who came by. Every picture on the wall was straight and the furniture all looked picture perfect. She had lots of snacks prepared and a few activities so people wouldn't get bored. Later, there would be a nice dinner.

She wasn't sure where Ian or Kelly were, but as long as they weren't making messes, it didn't matter at the moment.  Everything had to be perfect for the party.

Well, it took some epic Mapquesting and a whole lot of crossing her fingers (which she didn't recommend while driving), but Saxsice had made it there in mostly one piece without hurting anything (she was pretty sure that bush hadn't REALLY wanted to be that close to the road).

Hopping out of the car, she gave her hair a quick smooth, then made her way up to the door to knock.

"Saxsice!" Janie grinned after she opened the door. "I'm so glad you made it! Thank you!"

Grinning as well, very proud of herself, Saxsice replied, "Course I made it. Wouldn't miss it."

"Come in, come in. There's lots of food."

She brightens considerably. "Ooo, food! My favorite."

She grinned. "I spent all day getting ready for this."

"Oooo, then it's definitely my favorite," Saxsice said, half-teasingly, stepping inside.

Janie gave Saxsice a huge hug once she stepped inside. "I made the kind with edible things in it."

Saxsice was momentarily taken aback, but after a moment she hugs back. "Okay, you're officially among the best chefs I know. Just from that sentence."

She frowns, wondering whether she should take off her shoes. "I'd be disillusioned, but no less faithful."

Janie was barefoot, but no one else was. "Rocks can be pretty tasty."

Saxsice decides to go against convention and kick her shoes off. "Do you know this from experience?"

"Does the first batch of cookies I made count?"

"As pyramid-building material, yes."

Janie laughed. "Now you know the secret of the Egyptians."

"I'll use this information wisely, promise."

"I'll hold you to that."

She laughed, shaking her head and looking around the house. "So," she said, being the master of the smooth subject change. "Nice place."

"Thank you. I love it. This is... really nice. I'm really happy to be here. We're going to get a dog too, so, I'm excited about that."

"How many bedrooms y'got?" Saxsice inquired, always interested in this. The amount of bedrooms in a persons house spoke a lot about them. She was sure it was some sort of fortune-telling science.

Then, grinning, "Really? What sorta dog?"

"It's got three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living room, obviously. Um, it has a dining room and a kitchen too, but all houses have kitchens, I shouldn't have even said that. Or the living room, do you want me to show you around so I stop putting my foot in my mouth?"

She shook her head, and went back to thinking before speaking. "Kelly and I are going to the shelter to pick one out. I'm not sure what kind."

"Oooo, two bathrooms, nice." Saxsice grinned, elbowing Janie gently. "I'd love the grand tour, but no worries about the foot-in-mouth thing. I once had a realtor show me a place and put special emphasis on the fact that it had windows and running water."

Nodding thoughtfully, Saxsice turned her attention to the carpeting (she didn't have much in her apartment, and she enjoyed it). "I've heard it's very socially conscious to get shelter dogs. Or so the ASPCA ads keep telling me."

"I'm... really glad for the two bathrooms. Really? She did? Don't most places these days have both of those? Are you moving somehwere? It is good to get a dog from a shelter. A lot of pets at pet stores are from puppy mills and those are just terrible to animals."

"I was working with a...really low budget back then." Shrugging, Saxsice scuffed her bare foot against the floor. "I'm thinkin' about movin'. And we got our dog from a dumpster out back, so."
