(Happens directly after this)
If you asked her, there was nothing to recover from and she refused to let anyone help her or even touch her for more than a few seconds.
Injuries were patched the best she could and she tried to live normally. Well, as normally as she could without leaving the few rooms that were considered 'safe'. Janie knew she would heal eventually and that she needed to get back out there and fight.
There was no thinking about what happened during those days trapped in the box. Nothing about what happened before or when she was first trapped. That's why her showers went on for nearly an hour, or why she had pages and pages of advanced formulas written out on sheets of paper and stacked in neat piles. Everything around her was perfectly organized, almost sterile. Sleeping too much meant thinking, so more formulas were written out. Her hair was braided and unbraided, the room got reorganized several times. She checked on her friends occasionally but let them have time alone.
Alec and Phoenix were- well, family. Sometimes more, sometimes less. She was usually closer to Phoenix but both were constants, both made her feel safe. She left them so Phoenix could recover from what happened to him. He wouldn't have been found if it weren't for Alec.
Janie tried to stop thinking again when Phoenix walked in. She stared at him a few minutes and stepped back, though she knew everything would be okay.
"I'm okay." She knew he was there to heal her, but she didn't want that. Instead of fighting or voicing her opinion, however, she turned around and took a seat.
"Janie..." He didn't finish the sentence, just walked over to start the healing process. His hand was moving aside the shoulders of her robe, to heal her. She sat there and looked straight forward as the warmth soothed, then healed the worst of the injuries. Formulas, random quotes and everything else went through her head so she didn't have to think about why this was happening.
She waited for it to be over. Phoenix wouldn't hurt her, he'd never- "Relax."
"What?" she asked him.
"You're tense... Relax a bit"
That simple phrase ended in her breaking down into her first tears since escaping. Phoenix held her, told her everything would be alright. There were still things wrong, still a few injuries, but she didn't want to talk about it.
Something had happened to her in that box that she thought she would never forget. Janie wanted another shower, somewhere to cry where no one would see her. Where Phoenix and Alec couldn't hear.
He said nothing as half of the story came out between sobs, until she exhausted herself. When told to rest, she again didn't argue as she walked to the bed, holding her robe close to her body. Her friend was still with her, she assumed he was tired from his own ordeal, probably weak from healing her.
He'd been through so much. She felt like she needed to comfort him. Janie turned, so her back was no longer facing her friend, and she put an arm around Phoenix.
"Thank you." She spoke. A few moments later she would fall into a dreamless sleep.
