Much deserved fun

Instead of popping up in Julian's place uninvited, Janie knocked on his door a few minutes after she got the last note from him.

She knocked, and waited for him to get to the door.

"Really? Oh good. I don't have many friends and losing one over something so silly would be terrible."

Janie headed over to the console, which was the steering wheel, keyboard and a flat screen. It all looked surprisingly simple.

"Norrin flew me through space on his board. That was weird, weird and wonderful, and we're still friends. So ... really, don't worry."

He followed to see what Janie was doing, occasionally looking out of a window to see if something changed outside.


ooc: Does the boat have a name, btw? I might have started working on a tiny pic while on holidays, but it still lacks some detail. ;)

"He did? Wow, that must have been amazing!" She'd never been through space in an open craft before, and thought that it seemed really exciting.

She typed in a series of coordinates on the keyboard, then turned the steering wheel until the flat screen turned on, and the scenery outside started to fly by.

"We're on our way!"

ooc: Welcome back! I hope you had a nice Holiday. The name of the boat is 'The Rift Raft', and I'm squeeing over possible art :D

"It was awesome. More than that. Didn't see much of the flight itself, as we were there in an instant, but it was amazing nevertheless. He showed me Mars ... and the Sun. Beautiful Sun."

He smiled, remembering, then turned his attention back to this new and no less amazing journey and stepped closer to the window, instantly glued to it.

"Wow."


ooc: Thank you, it was great, just too short, as always. :) Ah right, I think Janie said the name before. Cool, thanks. I want to put some color onto that pic and tweak it a bit before posting. I guess it'll take a while. :)

"Mars and the Sun? It must have been nice to see it." After glancing at the console once more, she poured a drink for Julian.

"I've never actually watched things zip by like this. Wow is right."

ooc: Good! I'm glad you had a good time, and I don't remember if she's said it before or not, she's so secretive I always assume that she hasn't told. I'll be patient and probably forget about the picture, lol

"Oh yes, it was incredible ... oh, thanks! You're spoiling me." He took the drink with a broad smile before looking outside again.

"Really, never? I think I could watch for hours. I wonder what it looks like from the outside ... can anybody see us zipping by?"


ooc: Thanks. :) I'd love to work on the pic right away, but, alas. So many things to do and work starts again tomorrow. :(

"I enjoy spoiling my friends." She grinned.

"I usually go to where I need to go and that's it. No one can see us because we're actually in a parallel plane... Um, somewhat like glass that you can see out of and no one can see it?"

"Obviously. I'll return the favor when you can join me for a drink again."

He thought about her explanation and nodded. "And what if our destination were land-based? Would people see this boat popping up there?"

"I'll hold you to it."

Janie went back to the keyboard, and entered a few more numbers. "I just made it so they won't see it, but it will have to be visible for a few seconds so you can get off and back on the boat. Is that okay?"

"I think so. It's likely they won't believe what they saw anyway. I know I wouldn't." He took a sip from his drink, his gaze always returning to the window.

"Most people ignore what doesn't make sense." She settled next to her friend to watch."So, why Norway?"

"Which is quite convenient, I think."

He shrugged, looking a bit sheepish. "It's the country I used to think my family came from. I even learned the language, though I've never had much opportunity for using it. Well, at least it's supposed to have a beautiful landscape, and I'm all curious about the polar lights and the long nights."

"I never knew that." she said, after listening to him "Well, we've got all the time in the world to do whatever you want once we get there. That's something else I haven't done, taken time to really see polar lights. I'm glad you chose Norway!"

"It's nothing I tell people usually." Not anymore, anyway. Janie's enthusiasm made him smile, however. "Really? I'm glad then. I don't have any plans, actually, just ... yeah. Watching the polar lights, bit of the landscape. Maybe visit a nice restaurant? They do have good food there, I've heard."

"I think we all have things like that." Janie said, pouring herself a soda "I approve of those plans, and I haven't been out to a nice place to eat in... ages. Usually I stick to diners or fast food."

"Me neither, usually it's fast food or leftovers from the bar for me, too. Alright, we'll find a nice place to indulge ourselves. Do you like fish?"

"I- um, not really" she said. "I have a phobia of them, and don't really eat much of it."

"Ah, right, you said so earlier. Okay, no fish then. That's good, actually, because that way we won't risk stumbling across the rotten variety. There's lots of other tasty things, I'm sure we'll find something."

He pondered about other Norwegian dishes until he realized something.

"Uhm. But with this phobia ... why did you choose a boat?"

"Rotten?" she asked, suddenly worried food poisoning. "It was the best machine I could think of."

"Well, not exactly rotten. More like fermented. It's called rakfisk, and supposed to be a delicacy. The smell makes your eyes water. But it's the only dish like this they have, I think", he added quickly.

He nodded, to him, it still seemed a good choice. "I guess we're safe from them on this boat anyway."

"Is that something you want to try?" asked Janie "Because you can. I don't have to eat it if you try it."

She nods to Julian. "It's safe, one of the safest places you can be."

[lostinthefog]

"Hell, no. I could barely stand it when my sense of smell wasn't as good as it is now. We should definitely go for the reindeer steak instead."

Julian smiled a bit, considering that. "You know, that feels really, really good for a chance."

"Thank you." she smiled, sincerely. Reindeer steak sounded much, much better than smelly fish.

"It does. I'm really tired of being in danger"

Which was exactly his opinion, too, so his smile seemed rather relieved.

"Tell me about it. Is there any chance we never have to leave this boat again?"

"Not that I've had reindeer steak before... it's tasty, correct."

She considered what Julian said before answering. "We could, but I don't like the idea of hiding and giving up. I'm pretty sure they'll continue their- whatever you call it."
